We have yet to see white smoke signaling a final budget deal, but we can finally say this is the “beginning of the end” of what has been a tumultuous negotiating process between the Governor’s Office and legislative leadership.

Yesterday afternoon, rank-and-file lawmakers were briefed on the proposed spending package, which includes more than $1B in cuts and sweeps compared to last year. It’s important to note that the budget leaked yesterday is a starting point in this whole process—leadership will now attempt to reach the magic 31 votes in the House and 16 votes in the Senate. If they’re able to get the votes needed on the current proposal, it’ll go to the floor as-is. But there’s also a chance we could see some slight changes to what is currently on the table.

You can view the proposed budget by clicking here, but keep in mind that this is subject to change. More to come as we get closer to a final deal.
